UK committee claims China may have ‘engineered’ AIIB job

Legislators say China gave jobs to Alexander, Cameron and others to gain influence

A UK parliamentary committee alleges China may have arranged the appointment of a former UK minister to a multilateral bank to improve its global image.

In a July 13 report, the intelligence and security committee (ISC) said the Chinese government may have “in some part engineered” the hiring of Danny Alexander as vice-president of the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, hoping “to lend credibility to Chinese investment, as well as to the broader China brand”.
