Russia may nominate candidate for World Bank president

Experts think move is meant to embarrass US

Russia may propose its own candidate for the World Bank’s presidency, the country’s representative on the board said.

Roman Marshavin told news agency Tass on March 3 the country was in “consultations with our partners”. Marshavin claimed Russia could count “about half of the 25 members” of the board of executive directors as its allies.

Traditionally, the US proposes one of its own citizens to head the World Bank. The board of executive directors elects the president to a five-year term. It
