Japan to nominate Kazuo Ueda as next BoJ governor

Yen rises on surprise that Ueda is tipped to take up the top post

Japan’s government is set to appoint former Bank of Japan board member Kazuo Ueda as the central bank’s next governor, in a sudden switch away from the candidate thought to be the leading contender.

The government had initially approached BoJ deputy governor Masayoshi Amamiya as a possible successor to Haruhiko Kuroda, but Amamiya declined the position, Nikkei reported.
