Prominent economists call on US to unfreeze Afghan reserves

Seventy economists have sent an open letter to US president Joe Biden and Treasury secretary Janet Yellen urging the release of Afghanistan’s frozen international reserves.

The letter, dated August 10, describes the humanitarian crisis the country has undergone since the fall of its US-backed government to the Taliban last year.
