Central African Republic launches crypto asset

Regional central bank reaffirmed ban on cryptocurrency after CAR made bitcoin legal tender

The Central African Republic launched the sango coin crypto asset project on July 3, setting up a dispute with the regional central bank and raising questions over how the asset will be used.

The CAR national assembly already passed a law making bitcoin legal tender in the country on April 21, which the president signed the following day. The Bank of Central African States (BEAC), which serves six countries including the CAR, has objected to the measure.
