Fed nominee Barr plans to re-evaluate capital and liquidity rules

Proposed vice-chair for supervision sees limited role for Fed in tackling climate change

Michael Barr, the nominee as vice-chair for supervision at the US Federal Reserve, has said he plans to examine capital and liquidity regulation as a complete picture, rather than piecemeal.

“What I’d like to do is to come into this position if confirmed and wrap my arms around the whole capital and liquidity picture. That includes the SLR [supplementary leverage ratio], the Basel III endgame, stress testing and the like,” said Barr during testimony to the Senate Banking Committee on May 19. He
