Jerome Powell was confirmed for a second term as Federal Reserve chair by the US Senate on Thursday, as senators voted by 80 to 19.

This is US president Joe Biden’s third nomination to the board of the Fed to be approved by the Senate.

Some 13 Republicans voted against Powell, joined by five Democrats and one independent, Bernie Sanders, who has twice sought the Democratic presidential nomination. Another leading Democrat, Elizabeth Warren, also voted against a second term.
