Leading Colombian presidential candidate plans central bank reform

Gustavo Petro claims current government has captured the board of directors

The leading candidate in Colombia’s upcoming presidential election has called for a reform of the management of the central bank to include representatives of “productive organisations”.

Gustavo Petro, a former mayor of Bogotá, said on February 18 that the current board of the Central Bank of Colombia – widely known as the Bank of the Republic – “belongs to” the current president’s party.
