The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston announced on February 9 that it had chosen University of Michigan economist Susan Collins to be its next president.

Collins will become the first Black woman to lead a regional Federal Reserve bank. Raphael Bostic became the first Black person to serve as a regional Fed president when he took charge of the Atlanta Fed in 2017.

She will assume the Boston post on July 1. Collins will serve out the remainder of her predecessor Eric Rosengren’s five-year term
