IMF mission to leave Brazil in June

Announcement follows criticism by finance minister of IMF forecasts

The International Monetary Fund will close its office in Brazil next June 30, when the term of its incumbent resident representative ends.

Both the IMF and the Brazilian economy ministry stated that the office was closing because Brazil had long exited its most recent fund programme. IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice said on December 16 that the office had been opened in 1999 during an IMF programme with Brazil.
