UK politicians criticise BoE over handling of QE

Critical report comes as BoE MPC member suggests asset purchases may need to be halted early

A report by members of the UK’s second house of parliament has criticised the Bank of England’s handling of its quantitative easing programme.

The report by the House of Lords economic affairs committee suggested that financial markets perceived the QE programme as financing the government’s deficit spending. This argument was rejected by BoE governor Andrew Bailey when he appeared before the committee.
