Angola grants central bank independence

Constitutional amendment will guarantee autonomy and add financial stability to mandate

The National Assembly of Angola on June 22 approved a constitutional amendment conferring independence on the central bank.

The amendment also expands the National Bank of Angola’s (BNA) mandate and changes the process of appointing the governor.

The action is part of a wider package of constitutional reform, which will affect 32 articles of the 2010 basic law. President João Lourenço submitted the reforms to parliament in March.
