What led you to join the Bank of England (BoE) in September 1968, sparking your keen interest in central bank economics and policy-making ever since?

Following the Radcliffe Committee Report, the Bank of England, very sensibly, developed a policy for asking youngish, monetary economists to spend two years with them – partly to provide those in the Bank of England with knowledge of what was going on in academia.
