Iranian prosecutors indict former governor

Seif charged with “wasting” reserves in case that some argue is politically motivated

Iranian prosecutors have laid charges against Valiollah Seif, the country’s central bank governor between 2013 and 2018, accusing him of administrative violations and “dereliction of duty”.

The media outlet Al Jazeera, citing a semi-official Iranian news agency, reported that prosecutor Ali Alqasi-Mehr accused Seif of “wasting” more than $30 billion and 60 tonnes of gold.
