Myanmar central bank suspends over 200 staff for coup protests

Move comes as junta cracks down on government employees joining opposition protests

The Central Bank of Myanmar suspended 212 employees for participation in pro-democracy strikes, according to media reports.

The central bank joins other central and regional government agencies in taking punitive action against public employees opposing the military government. The armed forces seized power in the country almost seven weeks ago, and the regime’s struggle with pro-democracy protesters has become increasingly bloody.
