Lebanese central bank ‘has not handed over audit documents’

Media reports say embattled central bank has not provided basic data on transactions

Lebanon’s central bank is refusing to co-operate with independent auditors attempting to carry out probe its finances, several media outlets have reported.

Alvarez & Marsal were appointed as specialist independent auditors of the Bank of Lebanon, or BdL, after an extraordinary public dispute over the bank’s finances. The last Lebanese government, the International Monetary Fund and foreign governments, which were considering giving financial aid to the country, all demanded an independent audit
