Central bank comms need “second sea change” – Canadian governor

Central banks must fundamentally rethink the way they communicate, the Bank of Canada’s governor Tiff Macklem told the Jackson Hole conference on August 27.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced central banks to make “a second sea change in central bank communications – from transparency with markets to more engagement with the public”, Macklem said. “We’ve started, but we need to accelerate. In a nutshell, we need to spend more effort speaking and listening to the citizens we serve.”
