Fed picks G+D to develop ‘next-generation’ currency processing

German firm developed new prototype for the Fed to maximise speed and accuracy

The Federal Reserve has chosen German banknote and security firm Giesecke+Devriant to supply its “next generation” of banknote-processing machines.

G+D, which has worked with the Fed for over 40 years, won the competitive tender process with a machine based on its BPS M-platform. The company says it developed a prototype to meet the Fed’s specification, that can process “well beyond” 100,000 banknotes per hour, with “outstanding” accuracy.
