It is too early to know how significant the effects of the coronavirus will be on the US economy, Federal Reserve vice-chair Richard Clarida said in a speech on February 25.

Clarida said the central bank is monitoring the emergence of the virus, which had a death toll of 2,700 worldwide on February 25. The vast majority of deaths have occurred in mainland China, but over recent days infection rates in some Asian and European countries have begun to rise. The US has 53 confirmed cases.
