Ireland to cease euro banknote production

Central bank will look for third-party provider to continue to meet Eurosystem obligations

The Central Bank of Ireland will source its euro banknotes from a third party in the euro area, following a decision to stop printing notes at its own plant by April 2019.

“There will be no impact on the production of Irish euro coins or the supply of cash to the national cash cycle as a result of this decision, as the majority of banknotes in Ireland are already produced elsewhere,” a statement from the central bank said.
