IMF boosts support for Argentina to $56.3bn

Programme aims for ambitious fiscal goals in an electoral year

The executive board of the International Monetary Fund gave the green light to increase its ongoing programme with Argentina on October 26, following months of higher market turbulence.

The three-year standby arrangement approved in June has been boosted to $56.3 billion, up from $50 billion, making it the largest programme in the IMF’s history. The fund also completed the first review of the programme, which allows national authorities to draw $5.7 billion.
