Later this month, residents of Switzerland will head to the polls. But it will not be politicians’ names on the ballot papers. Instead, members of the public are being asked to make a choice that could radically change Switzerland’s economic system.

The vote, to be held on June 10, is the result of a proposal published by a rebellious few, a group of economists and campaigners who want to ban commercial banks from creating money through their lending to businesses and consumers.
