Nestor Espenilla took over the governorship of the Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP) from Amando Tetangco earlier this week, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the central bank.

The fourth governor of the BSP since its establishment in 1993, Espenilla joined the central bank’s earlier incarnation in 1981 as a debt analyst and steadily rose through the ranks until he was appointed deputy governor for the supervision and examination sector in 2005.
