The turbulent process of negotiating Greece's financial assistance package has once again turned acrimonious, as creditors disagree on the way forward and accuse the government of breaking spending promises.

On December 14, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) froze debt relief measures agreed just last week, after the Greek government announced new spending on pensioners and delays to VAT hikes for islands affected by the refugee crisis.
