New facility opens to print £10 notes, as £5 enters circulation

The banknote substrate maker Innovia has opened a new facility in the UK for printing the next denomination of sterling banknotes, the £10, as the first polymer £5 notes enter circulation today (September 13).

A spokesman said the £5 note was needed before the new plant was ready, and as such the substrate was produced in a separate Innovia facility in Australia. Innovia also produced the substrate for Australia's new A$5 note, which entered circulation on September 2.
