IMF issues stark warning to UK on EU exit

Bank of England could find itself battling market dislocation and economic slowdown

The International Monetary Fund today (May 13) added its voice to those warning of the potentially severe economic downturn that could follow if the UK votes to leave the European Union.

At a press conference in London, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said depending on how events pan out after a leave vote, economic outcomes ranged from "pretty bad, to very, very bad".

The IMF will not publish any figures on the estimated effects of leaving until the full Article IV and 'Selected Issues'
