Swap line availability not assured, warns Bill Allen

It is ‘not certain’ the Federal Reserve will be able to provide liquidity in the same manner

Central banks may not be able to replicate their use of swap lines during the financial crisis, Bill Allen has warned, despite the "enormous service" they provided.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Central Banking Autumn Training Series, held at Christ's College, Cambridge, Allen said: "I don't know if the swap lines would be available again, and nor does anybody else."
