ECB president says structural reforms ‘in the interest of the union as a whole’

Mario Draghi called for new European rules that would compel eurozone member states to pursue structural reforms in a speech in London last night, as the European Central Bank (ECB) grows increasingly frustrated with national governments dragging their feet.

Draghi, the ECB president, argued that "insufficient structural reforms" were one of the main "downside risks" facing the eurozone economy, in a statement following the latest governing council meeting.
