Increasingly uncertain outlook prompts Pakistan to hold

Inflation rises but fiscal consolidation is above target, central bank says

The State Bank of Pakistan has kept its key policy rate at 11.5% for the third consecutive meeting of its monetary policy committee (MPC).

In a statement today (September 14) the bank said uncertainty regarding the economic outlook had increased, and cited the “worsening geopolitical environment”.

Three of the 10 MPC members voted against the decision, though when Central Banking contacted the bank it did not immediately clarify whether the dissenters had voted for rates to be raised or cut.
