MAS says support for IMF’s anti-poverty work aids stability

Central bank to provide $36.9m to aid fund’s work in Sudan and other underdeveloped countries

Singapore’s central bank has said its contributions to the International Monetary Fund’s poverty reduction work contribute to a more stable international monetary system.

Alvin Tan, a member of the national development board at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), told the country’s parliament on February 4 that the central bank would provide around SDR 25.5 million ($36.9 million) to support the IMF’s Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust and the institution’s work in Sudan.
