Hungary’s central bank completes carbon capture programme

MNB expects 75% reduction in emissions by end of 2025

The Central Bank of Hungary (MNB) is offsetting its remaining annual CO2 emissions by financing a carbon capture programme.

On August 22 the bank received a “habitat restoration certificate” from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), a Swiss non-governmental organisation focused on wilderness preservation.

This was after the bank financed the restoration of a 27-hectare oak forest and the creation of 32 hectares of a “wetland forest mosaic” close to the river Drava, a tributary of the Danube.
