A committee in the upper house of Brazil’s parliament on August 14 postponed for a second time a vote on a bill that would grant the central bank financial autonomy.

Davi Alcolumbre, chairman of the Senate committee that is overseeing the bill, said it would vote on whether to approve the bill and put it before the upper house during its next in-person meeting, which has yet to be scheduled.

The bill was first proposed in November 2023 and the committee was originally due to vote on it in July.
