BoE’s high-value payment system hit by ‘global payments issue’

Settlement of some payments delayed after problem originating with Swift; ECB delays closure of Target systems

The UK faced delays to high-value payments today (July 18) after a key payment system operated by the Bank of England (BoE) was hit by a “global payments issue”.

The issue occurred in Chaps, a high-value, real-time settlement system used to process major transactions, such as house purchases, in the UK.

“A global payments issue is affecting the bank’s Chaps service and delaying some high value and time-sensitive payments, including some house purchases,” the central bank said in a statement issued
