Head of Romania’s central bank ‘deepfaked’ by scammers

NBR says fraudsters’ use of AI-generated video points to increasing risks from manipulated imagery

The governor of the National Bank of Romania has been targeted in a deepfake video that appears to show him encouraging people to invest in a financial scam. 

The central bank said in a statement on February 5 that the video – which features Mugur Isârescu’s manipulated image and voice – had been posted on social networks.
