Libyan central bank says it has reunified

US welcomes announcement after years of civil war division but calls for “concrete action”

The Central Bank of Libya said it has reunified after being effectively divided in two for nearly nine years by the country’s civil war.

The CBL announced on August 20 that its governor Sadiq Al-Kabir met with deputy governor Maree Muftah Raheel in the central bank’s Tripoli headquarters. Raheel has been acting head of the central bank in the eastern city of Bayda since late November 2022.
