Digital euro could be available via bank apps, ECB says

Approval of third round of design options does not entail progress beyond investigation

The European Central Bank’s governing council has approved the third set of design options for the digital euro.

The model, released on April 24, would make the central bank digital currency accessible through existing banking apps, as well as on an app developed by the Eurosystem.

Nonetheless, this does not mean the ECB will go beyond the investigation phase of a digital euro. In the autumn of 2023, the governing council will assess the research work, and then decide whether to move forward
