Gold supplies to the National Bank of Ethiopia have decreased due to illegal gold trafficking in the northwest of the country, hampering efforts to stabilise the country’s post-civil war economy. 

Ashadli Hasan, head of one of the highest gold-producing areas – the Benishangul-Gumuz regional state – visited the Menge district, and said gold production reaching the central bank has fallen. The government will take legal action against traffickers and those buying gold above the central bank
