BIS reveals winning design for new HQ tower

Second tower will be major addition to Basel skyline – if it gets the go-ahead

The Bank for International Settlements unveiled the winning design for a major expansion of its head office today (December 14).

The 11-member jury chose an “innovative and sustainable” design by Chilean architects Elemental and Basel-based Nissen Wentzlaff Architekten.

If it goes ahead, the project will see several “ageing” buildings adjacent to the main BIS tower demolished and replaced with a second tower connecting to the first. The BIS would expect to move staff out of the Botta building
