Ethiopian central bank orders branch reopening in conflict-affected areas

Banks must complete audits and collect non-performing loans

The Ethiopian central bank has ordered banks to reopen branches in areas controlled by the Ethiopian National Defence Force, after the Tigray war ended on November 2. 

The federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front signed a peace agreement after a two-year war that displaced millions. 

Frezer Ayalew, banking supervision directorate director at the National Bank of Ethiopia, told news outlet the Reporter that the central bank convened all presidents of commercial banks last week
