Credit is tightening for eurozone firms and households, says ECB

Loan demand from firms increased but fell from households, survey finds

Credit standards tightened for eurozone companies and households in this year’s third quarter, according to the latest European Central Bank survey.

Loans and credit lines for enterprises tightened by 19% over the third quarter of 2022. During the same period, mortgage loans became 32% dearer. Credit for consumers and other non-mortgage loans to households tightened by 21%.

Between July and September, companies’ credit demand in the eurozone increased due to higher input costs and inventories
