Ukrainian governor Shevchenko resigns

Governor says he is quitting for health reasons as Gontareva says possible successor is unqualified

Ukraine’s central bank governor Kyrylo Shevchenko resigned unexpectedly on October 4, saying he was leaving for health reasons, after just over two years in office.

Shevchenko said in a statement on Facebook that he had resigned “due to the health-related issues that cannot be ignored any longer”. He submitted his resignation to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, who nominated Shevchenko in July 2020 after effectively dismissing his predecessor, Yakiv Smolii.
