Bundesbank vice-president calls for shift to ‘carbon accounting’

Proper calculation of carbon costs will mean firms disclosing private data, Claudia Buch says

The public and private sectors need to work together to implement a system of “carbon accounting”, according to Deutsche Bundesbank vice-president Claudia Buch.

“Current decisions by firms, consumers and investors do not sufficiently take adverse effects on the climate into account,” Buch said in a speech in Basel on August 25. Central banks must make structural changes to their statistical methods so that these participants could make better choices, she said.
