US banks anticipate delay to Basel III implementation

New Fed supervision head expected to align schedule with EU and Japan, but time is tight

Basel III capital requirements are unlikely to enter force before 2025 in the US, industry sources say, as opposed to the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s preferred date of 2023. This is due to delays appointing a key regulator, and the desire of the country’s prudential regulators to align their implementation schedule with the European Union and Japan.
