Riksbank reports on e-krona pilot’s performance

Pilot CBDC can integrate into payments systems, but met potential AML and performance problems

Sveriges Riksbank published the results of the second phase of its project investigating the e-krona, its prototype central bank digital currency (CBDC). The report focused on technical and legal solutions. 

The e-krona could be legally designed as an electronic form of cash, the central bank said, alongside banknotes and coins. To allow that, the government might need to change both Sweden’s constitution and the law governing the central bank.
