The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) increased the official cash rate by 25 basis points today (February 23).

The decision was widely expected due to the sharp increase in inflation recorded over the last few months, which has taken readings clearly over the mid-term target. Nonetheless, the central bank surprised analysts with the summary record of the meeting, when it says policy-makers debated the possibility of increasing interest rates by 50bp.
