Slovene parliament rejects government’s central bank nominee

MPs criticise candidate over alleged governing party links as banking dispute continues

Slovenia’s parliament rejected the government’s nominee for deputy governor of the central bank after some opposition members questioned his independence.

Slovene president Borut Pahor nominated Marjan Divjak, director-general of the finance ministry’s treasury division, to take over the deputy governor’s position, which is due to become vacant in April. Pahor said that Divjak had the best chance of winning a parliamentary vote of any of the five candidates who had put themselves forward.
