Turkish central bank has fired large number of staff, report says

Journalist says “political appointees” are joining bank in unprecedented numbers

Turkey’s new central bank governor has dismissed around 90 members of staff in the last three months, a Turkish journalist has reported.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Şahap Kavcıoğlu as governor on March 20, having fired his predecessor shortly after the central bank raised policy rates. A Turkish journalist working in Germany has said that Kavcıoğlu has carried out an extraordinary number of dismissals in recent weeks.

Erdal Sağlam wrote in Deutsche Welle on June 28 that
