Fifty pound banknote

The Bank of England’s new £50 banknote entered circulation today (June 23), completing the UK’s transition to polymer banknotes.

In a statement, the BoE’s chief cashier Sarah John said the new £50 note was the “most secure” yet. “The features of the note make it very difficult to counterfeit,” she said.

The new banknote will become available from bank branches and ATMs in the coming days.

In the same statement, the BoE announced the cessation of the old cotton £20 and £50 banknotes. Members
