BIS prepares to redevelop HQ

Bank’s biggest building project since the 1970s could see major expansion of main site

The Bank for International Settlements has launched a major programme of building works that could see the floor area of its main office almost triple.

Today (June 21), the Basel-based organisation called for “expressions of interest” from architects.

The BIS plans to expand and modernise its facilities, as well as consolidating its offices on a single “campus” around the main tower, which will remain. The proposals imply the BIS will move out of the nearby ‘Botta’ building, while four “ageing
