When the Soviet Union collapsed, Elvira Nabiullina was working as a chief specialist in economic reform at the USSR scientific and industrial union board. 

Jorgovanka Tabaković was minister of ownership and economic transformation when the Yugoslav wars ended in 2001. 

The year the people of North Macedonia voted in a referendum to adopt its current name, after a long-standing dispute with Greece, Anita Bezhoska became the first female governor of the central bank.
